Cruise to the remote regions of Iceland and Greenland aboard the luxurious small ship, Seabourn Venture. Contemplate staggering geological wonders and icy shores home to wondrous wildlife. Our expedition cruise allows us to linger awhile to observe once-in-a-lifetime occurrences, while our ship’s Zodiacs and Expedition Team get us even closer to the action.

Reykjavík (Iceland)
In Reykjavík, the Canopy by Hilton welcomes us. Take your afternoon at leisure before meeting your fellow travellers during this evening’s Welcome Dinner.
Reykjavík, Embark Seabourn Venture
Our explorations of Iceland begin at Hallgrímskirkja, Reykjavík’s striking Lutheran church. Composed of white concrete, the structure is an architectural marvel and one of the city’s most iconic sights. The artistic treasures continue at Nordic House, which presents a diverse range of exhibits, while promoting the ongoing cultural exchange between Iceland and the other Nordic countries. Following visits to the National Museum and City Hall, we stand before the grand stone facade of the House of Parliament. Catch sight of the many fishing boats as we then drive past the harbour. We also admire the Harpa concert hall, whose contemporary exterior graces the waterfront.
Following lunch at a local restaurant, we are transferred to the port, where we meet our vessel, Seabourn Venture. Acquaint yourself with the ship’s amenities before settling into your comfortable suite.
Grunðarfjörður
Along the Snæfellsnes Peninsula, we arrive in the small coastal town of Grunðarfjörður. Close by, and jutting out to sea, Mt Kirkjufell’s contours give it the appearance of a soaring spinning top. On the peninsula’s opposing coast, we find the small villages of Arnarstapi and Hellnar. Our coastal discovery then brings us to the Vatnshellir cave. From within the cave, we’re able to venture beneath the epic glacier of Snæfellsjökull. Back on the road, we soon see the charming black and white church of Búðir standing isolated amid a sprawling grassy landscape – we pause momentarily in this captivating setting for one-of-a-kind photo opportunities.
On our way back to the ship, we also stop in at Bjarnarhöfn Shark Museum to learn about the place the fascinating fish holds across Iceland’s history – you may also take the opportunity to taste fermented shark while we are here. Reboard our ship this afternoon before enjoying the gourmet offerings of its restaurant.
At Sea
Enjoy a full day at sea as we cross the Denmark Strait on our way to Greenland. Relax in the Spa & Wellness area, attend a lecture in the Discovery Centre, or keep watch for a diversity of marine life from your position along the Bow Lounge.
Scoresby Sund (Greenland)
We sail into the epic natural wonder known as Scoresby Sund, named after William Scoresby, who mapped this giant fjord system in 1822. This untouched wilderness is brimming with dramatic contrasts, from its deep blue waters to epic snow-covered peaks and delicate icebergs. Join our Expedition Team on a Zodiac cruise along its surreal shoreline. Back aboard our ship, we glide effortlessly across ancient waters, feeling an almost profound sense of wonder.
Ittoqqortoormiit, Scoresby Sund
On the edge of the sound, we arrive at Ittoqqortoormiit, the only permanent settlement in the region. Brought ashore by Zodiacs, we take a tour of the small community here and pay a visit to the local museum. Make the most of these enlightening Arctic experiences before returning to our ship.
Northeast Greenland National Park
Further north, we reach Northeast Greenland National Park, the world’s largest national park. The Arctic wildlife and pristine wilderness here is rivalled by few destinations. Guided by the weather conditions, our captain charts a course to bring us near to some of the region’s most impressive ice formations. Join the Expedition Team aboard Zodiacs for a closer look.
Northeast Greenland National Park
We continue our discoveries of Northeast Greenland National Park today. Rugged coastlines invite us to explore otherworldly landscapes; while monumental fjords, sprawling glaciers and the vast Greenland ice sheet are best appreciated from aboard our comfortable vessel.
Northeast Greenland National Park
During our final day in Northeast Greenland National Park, we keep watch for whales, seals and, perhaps, even an Arctic fox or two. While our attention may also be drawn to clamouring colonies of Arctic terns, kittiwakes and fulmars.
At Sea
Bidding farewell to Greenland, we begin our return to Iceland across the Denmark Strait. Compare notes of your adventures to date, while meeting friends in the ship’s restaurant or up on deck.
Akureyri (Iceland), Goðafoss
Docking in the port of Akureyri, we disembark the ship and take the road to the spectacular Goðafoss Waterfall. Be amazed at its cascading waters, gushing over multiple rocky ledges. Further east, we arrive at Lake Mývatn. The shallow body of water occupies a landscape shaped by ancient volcanic eruptions. While here, we observe the pseudocraters (formed from lava flow across wet ground) of Skútustaðir and walk across the mysterious lava field of Dimmuborgir. On our return to the ship, we take a tour of Akureyri, where you may like to pick up a keepsake or two.
Húsavik
Today we reach the small town of Húsavik, popularised in the movie, Eurovision Song Contest. Driving inland, we arrive at Dettifoss, a powerful waterfall within Vatnajökull National Park. Continue to Ásbyrgi, a vast horseshoe-shaped canyon formed by glacial flooding – though legend has also attributed the gaping chasm to the furious hoofs of one of Odin’s galloping horses. Local lore also suggests that nearby Botnstjörn may harbour a community of elves. Should they fail to make an appearance, the area’s birch forest and idyllic pond at least attracts several species of bird. Back in Húsavik, take the opportunity to rejuvenate in the healing waters of the GeoSea baths. The infinity-style pool here allows you to cast your gaze across the sea, while mineral-rich waters put their healing properties to work.
Seyðisfjörður
Rounding Iceland’s northeastern shores, our ship soon docks at Seyðisfjörður. From here, we take the road to staggering Studlagil Canyon. The sheer walls of the canyon are composed of many basalt columns. The perpendicular pillars were formed by cooling magma and, incredibly, were only discovered by locals in 2016. On the way back to the ship, take a look around the quaint town of Seyðisfjörður, whose well-spaced homes and charming church are found neatly positioned along its waterfront.
Heimaey
Just off Iceland’s southern coast lies Heimaey. Join a guided tour of this largest island in the Vestmannaeyjar archipelago. Keep watch for birdlife, including puffins, nesting along the cliffs. This afternoon, cruise to some of the other islands in the Vestmannaeyjar group, including tiny Súlnasker, whose sea caves are a haven for nesting birds. Back on land, take a stroll through Heimaey’s town before rejoining the ship.
Reykjavík, Disembark Seabourn Venture
Back in the capital, we farewell the crew of Seabourn Venture and disembark for the final time. We then head off to discover some of the geological wonders that Iceland is renowned for. Taking the Golden Circle Route, we explore the rugged, yet beautiful Thingvellir National Park, as well as the astonishing Gullfoss waterfalls and the Geysir geothermal area. Back in Reykjavík, we celebrate our magnificent journey during a Farewell Dinner at a local restaurant. The Canopy by Hilton welcomes us back for an overnight stay.
Reykjavík
Following breakfast at our hotel, we transfer to the airport, our thrilling journey at an end.
