Spirituality, Wellness and Ritual in Leh

Join an early morning prayer service with monks at Thiksey Monastery. Perhaps follow this with a visit to an amchi – a traditional Tibetan doctor. Then take a leading role in the Lighting of 1000 Lamps.

Itinerary

In Delhi, we make our way to The Imperial, our home for two nights. Enjoy a guided tour of our hotel’s extensive art collection, followed by a Welcome Dinner at one of India’s finest restaurants, The Spice Route. We are then joined by our guest host, Ira Trivedi, for our flight to Leh, within the region of Ladakh. It is there that we check in to the exclusive Chamba Camp Thiksey for five nights.

We emerge from our luxurious tents and join Ira Trivedi for a morning yoga session and meditation. Our travels then take us to Matho Monastery, renowned for its elaborate Tibetan Buddhist paintings. At Thiksey Monastery, we are privileged to participate in the Buddhist Morning Prayer ceremony at sunrise. We then have the option to visit a traditional Tibetan doctor, who specialises in an ancient form of medicine.

Enjoy a wholesome, hot lunch, prepared especially for us, as we admire the magnificent views of peaks and valleys from our position along the Wari La pass. Choose to visit the SECMOL School, which combines ancient Ladakhi tradition and modern academic practices. Alternatively, power down the Zanskar rapids on a whitewater rafting adventure. Local dancers then enchant us, during a performance of storytelling, song, and authentic folk dancing.

We savour our final morning in Leh, before reluctantly leaving our camp for the flight to Delhi, this time checking in to The Oberoi Gurugram. Here we have the option to spend time at leisure at our spectacular hotel. Otherwise, the charming Hauz Khas village beckons; its narrow lanes revealing medieval structures alongside modern boutiques and eateries. We also have an opportunity to visit Qutub Minar, the world’s tallest brick minaret.

With memories that will last a lifetime and a renewed vitality of spirit, we bid farewell to Delhi, and make our way to the airport for our journey home.
