In London, you will be met and transferred to The Londoner on Leicester Square. Enjoy the hotel’s facilities this afternoon before we gather for our Welcome Dinner. Meet your fellow travellers and share in the anticipation of what’s to come.

After breakfast at our hotel, we transfer to London Stansted Airport’s private jet terminal. Here we board our business class private jet for a mid-morning flight to Ponta Delgada, capital of the Azores archipelago of Portugal. Enjoy a gourmet lunch on board before we touch down on São Miguel Island and head straight to Ponta Delgada’s waterfront residence, the Octant Ponta Delgada Hotel.

An optional walking tour reveals the area’s distinctive buildings, constructed from black basalt and white limestone. Cobblestone pathways lead us to the local market, brimming with fresh produce. From here, we continue to the Mother Church of Ponta Delgada, the Igreja Matriz de São Sebastião, whose facade is also characteristic of the island’s architectural style. A short walk then brings us to São Francisco Square, seen populated by rows of trees. At one end of the square stands the Convent of Esperança, meeting place for one of the archipelago’s largest religious festivals, the Senhor Santo Cristo dos Milagres.

You are also welcome to remain at our hotel or set out on discoveries of your own.

This morning, we divide into smaller groups, allowing for an even greater immersion of São Miguel Island’s highlights. A drive to the island’s interior leads us first to Lagoa do Fogo. This pristine, picturesque lake is situated within a volcanic caldera. On the northern coast of the island, we then find Ribeira Grande, a lush municipality known for its spectacular tiered waterfall and tea plantation. We stop in at one of the local tea factories for a tasting before continuing east to the Pico do Ferro viewpoint for extraordinary views of Furnas Lake and its surrounding mountains. Descending to the shoreline, witness large pots of ‘cozido’, a traditional Portuguese stew, being lowered into steaming pits. After several hours, the pots are retrieved, with the dish brought to its desired temperature and consistency courtesy of the volcanic soil. At the nearby Restaurante Vale Das Furnas, we settle in for a lunch of this local specialty.

Close by, at Terra Nostra Park, the island’s botanical wonders are on display. Amid the flourishing greenery, the park’s hot springs invite us to bathe in their iron-rich therapeutic waters. During our return trip, we stop in at the town of Vila Franca do Campo, along the island’s southern shores. Here, we admire the town square’s city hall and main church. Enjoy dinner this evening at our hotel’s restaurant or choose from a selection of the area’s other fine establishments.

Returning to the airport, we meet back up with our private jet for the flight to Cuba. Our time in the air is suitably enhanced, thanks to our onboard chef’s gourmet cuisine, accompanied by fine wines. Arriving mid-afternoon, we check into the Gran Hotel Manzana Kempinski La Habana for three nights. Our hotel hosts us for dinner this evening.

We acquaint ourselves with the city as we join a guided walking tour. Havana showcases its colourful buildings, designed according to a diversity of architectural styles. We stop in at the opulent Palace of the Captain’s General in Old Havana, as well as a few of Ernest Hemingway’s former haunts.

After lunch at a local restaurant, explore your preferred aspect of the city during a Your World experience:

— Trace Hemingway’s steps across the city and beyond, arriving in the picturesque village of Cojimar, setting for The Old Man and the Sea.

— Discover the city’s different architectural styles. Wander along the popular Prado Promenade, where your guide will point out the Cuban adaptations of Art Deco, Art Noveau, neo-Classic, and neo-Gothic styles.

The afternoon is otherwise free for you to explore on your own.

This evening, we dine at several paladares. Now an institution in Havana, these once-informal restaurants occupy private homes. In recent years, Cuba’s chefs have been free to open their own paladares, in response to the country’s gradually shifting economic picture.

Today we visit the fortresses, El Morro and La Cabaña, built to guard the entrance to the port of Havana. We then stop at Plaza de la Revolución, the square from which Fidel Castro once regularly addressed Cubans. At the Museum of the Revolution, we learn more about the revolutionary war of the 1950s. Lunch is at the innovative paladare of Ivan Chef Justo, set within an 18th-century colonial building with eclectic interiors.

Afterwards, select from these afternoon Your World experiences:

— Learn everything there is to know about cigars, from their origins, production, and exportation. Local, skilful rollers will demonstrate how to shape their cigars from a variety of leaves.

— Should you not have done so yesterday, choose to trace Hemingway’s steps across the city and beyond. Arrive in the picturesque village of Cojimar, setting for The Old Man and the Sea.

— Havana’s architectural tour is also on offer again this afternoon. Wander along the popular Prado Promenade, where your guide will point out the Cuban adaptations of Art Deco, Art Noveau, neo-Classic, and neo-Gothic styles.

Attend a special gala dinner, held in our honour, this evening.

At the airport, we rejoin our private jet for the flight to Peru. Often referred to as ‘The Gateway to the Amazon’, Iquitos is where we meet the river boats that will take us along the celebrated waterway. At the port, half our group board Aqua Nera, while the remainder acquaint themselves with Aqua Nera’s sister ship, Aria Amazon. Over the next three nights, these vessels will take us deep into the rainforest, along one of the Amazon’s largest tributaries, the Marañón River. After meeting our naturalist guides, we adjourn to the onboard restaurant for the first of our exquisite Peruvian dishes, created by the renowned Chef Pedro Miguel Schiaffino. Then relax in your comfortable suite, or up on deck, as we make our way along the river.

Awaken to the sun’s rays bathing the flourishing forest in an orange glow. Then keep watch for some of the region’s many bird species during an early morning birdwatching session. Keep watch for great egrets and parrots. We may also see sloths and Taricaya turtles along the way. Our naturalist guides enlighten us on the region’s history, flora and fauna, and we also have the rare opportunity to fish for piranhas. With the sun completing its daily trajectory, we try our luck at locating some nocturnal wildlife.

Leave the ship again this morning and seek out the wildlife occupying the banks of the Pahuachiro River. After breakfast, visit Puerto Prado Village for an investigation of its flora and fauna, including medicinal trees and poison dart frogs. Back aboard our vessel, enjoy a lunch made from fresh Amazonian ingredients, that replenishes our energy stores for our further river adventures.

After breakfast, we bid farewell to the ship’s crew. Back in Iquitos, we board a chartered economy class jet for our flight to the Chilean city of Calama. From here, we drive across the vast expanse of the Atacama Desert. Beyond our windows, the mesmerising salt flats gradually give way to yellow desert plains. While the rise and fall of hilltops across the horizon signify our approach to San Pedro de Atacama. Over the next three nights, we stay at the sublime Nayara Alto Atacama. Situated at the foot of a soaring rock formation, the property is dotted with cacti, Rica-Rica bushes, and vegetable gardens. A herd of llamas also makes its home here. Dine upon hearty Chilean cuisine this evening, enhanced with vegetables sourced directly from the lodge’s Andean Garden.

Awaken early this morning for a sunrise hot air balloon flight over the Atacama Desert. Take in spectacular views of the Licancabur Volcano, then toast your flight with sparkling wine.

The following two days present choice in abundance. Continue your adventures this morning with one of the following Your World experiences:

— Head to the village of Toconao, known for its use of masonry. Continue to a forest of tamarugo trees en route to the National Reserve of the Flamingos.

— Follow the San Pedro River to arrive at the archaeological site of Tulor. Then visit San Pedro’s historic centre before investigating Pukará de Quitor, the ancient fortress dating back more than 700 years.

Following lunch back at our lodge, set off on another Your World experience:

— Arrive at the surreal salt mountain range, the Cordillera de la Sal. Cross the Plain of Patience and make your ascent to a lookout point for views of rock formations, as well as ancient petroglyphs left by the region’s first inhabitants.

— Travel to the Ckamur Valley, whose barren, yet beautiful floor resembles the lunar surface. Appreciate the rare opportunity for silence and tranquillity that this vast area affords, as we explore its ineffable landscapes.

As always, you are most welcome to remain at our lodge instead should you wish.

After dinner this evening, perhaps partake in the optimal stargazing afforded by the phase of the new moon. The property’s own open-air observatory allows us to absorb the secrets of the skies unhindered by any light pollution.

Should you not have done so yesterday, rise early for a hot air balloon flight across the desert.

Yesterday morning’s Your World experiences are again on offer today. You may wish to take this opportunity to join whichever experience you have yet to join.

After lunch back at our lodge, two new afternoon Your World experiences are available:

— Take the road south of San Pedro de Atacama to arrive at the idyllic Cejar Lagoon. The high concentration of salt here enables you to float in the lagoon’s waters. Lie back, relax, and take in uncommon views of the Licancabur Volcano, as well as the sprawling Salt Mountain Range.

— Walk beside the unspoilt Puritama River to the Guatin viewpoint, punctuated spectacularly with cacti and tussock grasses. From this favourable position, you will bear witness to a glorious desert sunset.

Savour a final Chilean dining experience at our lodge this evening. You may wish to make use of the property’s telescope again after dinner.

We farewell our lodge this morning and make tracks across the desert on our return to Calama. A chartered economy class flight then delivers us to the coastal city of Antofagasta, where we rejoin our private jet. Spanning the breadth of the continent, today’s flight sector offers us the chance to reflect, and discuss, all that we have seen thus far. Naturally, there will also be time for a little gourmet dining and fine wine. Arriving in Salvador late in the afternoon, we transfer directly to the distinguished Hotel Fasano Salvador. We enjoy dinner and acquaint ourselves with our waterfront residence.

A walking tour of Salvador reveals Pelourinho, the city’s Old Town. The UNESCO World Heritage site features the largest collection of colonial buildings in all Latin America. The ornate baroque and neoclassical structures attract the eye with their brightly coloured facades. Cross the main plaza to see the gilded interiors of the Sao Francisco Church and Convent. At the Afro-Brazilian Museum, a vast collection of cultural artefacts illuminating the city’s West African heritage. Featured are the large wood-panel carvings of celebrated artist Carybé. After our visit here, we head to the Municipal Square, where we look upon the old City Hall building. At lunch, we dine at a churrascaria restaurant, savouring traditional, slow-roasted Brazilian dishes.

The afternoon has been set aside for tailored exploration, courtesy of the following Your World experiences:

— Set out on a tour of the lower city area, stopping at the revered Bonfim Church. Then embark a boat for a cruise along the Itapagipe Peninsula, observing local fishermen navigating the waters in their dugout canoes. Disembark in front of the famous Mercado Modelo, a bustling marketplace housed within an eye-catching, yellow building.

— Meet with a professional percussionist and enjoy a masterclass of Brazilian rhythms. Guided by your expert tutor, try your hand at following along with their patterns and cadence to produce some richly syncopated sounds.

— Visit one of the local centres of Projeto Axé, a non-government organisation providing educational and training opportunities to disadvantaged youth. Hear about the program’s aims, challenges and success stories, and meet some of its participants.

Following our respective adventures, we reconvene for dinner before returning to our beachfront property.

Soaring over the waters of the North Atlantic, our gourmet tastes are catered to during both lunch and dinner. By mid-evening, we touch down on the main island of Madeira’s archipelago. In the capital, Funchal, we make ourselves at home within the spectacular clifftop Reid’s Palace, from where we enjoy enviable ocean views over three nights.

Over the next two days, we enjoy an in-depth exploration of the island. Claimed by Portugal in 1419, the region is today officially known as the Autonomous Region of Madeira. Peruse the wares of the local farmer’s market, before walking through the Old Town. A cable car then takes us high above Funchal to Monte. Breathe in the cool air as we navigate winding pathways through alluring tropical gardens. An opportunity to experience the thrilling descent of a steep hillside aboard one of Funchal’s toboggans is then on offer. Driven by the sharply dressed Carreiros do Monte, our wicker sleds negotiate tight turns in their race to the bottom. Waterfront views and local specialties are on the menu during lunch at Vista Balancal.

This afternoon, join your preferred Your World experience:

— Guided by one of Madeira’s wine experts, absorb the knowledge of more than 200 years of winemaking at Blandy’s Wine Lodge. Savour a tasting of its finest wines, paired with local snacks.

— Discover the history and flavours of the region during a guided food and cultural walking tour. Stop in at seven local merchants to savour the tastes of locally produced drinks and dishes.

This evening, our hotel’s Michelin-starred William Restaurant, hosts us for an innovative, fine-dining experience.

Design your final full day on Madeira with a Your World experience:

— Board a jeep for off-road adventures across Madeira’s varied terrain. Begin with an overview of the island from its second-highest peak, Pico do Areeiro. Continue to the lush forest setting of Ribeiro Frio for further elevated perspectives. Your vehicles will then take you to the small village of Santana, whose triangular, thatched-roofed houses feature a distinctive colour scheme. Following lunch here, explore the stunning coastal regions of Faial and Porto da Cruz. Stop in at the fishing village of Caniçal before returning to Reid’s Palace. This is a full-day experience.

— Spend your morning walking in the footsteps of Winston Churchill. A vintage bus will bring you to the village of Câmara de Lobos, known for its colourful fishing boats. View the bay as Churchill would have seen it while producing one of his many paintings. Learn about Churchill’s love for the island from your knowledgeable guide. Take the opportunity to browse the local shops and perhaps sample a few of the local delicacies while here.

After lunch, you may also join one of the afternoon Your World experiences from yesterday, which are available again today. You may prefer to remain at Reid’s Palace and enjoy the remainder of the day at leisure.

This evening, our gala Farewell Dinner takes place at the historic, seafront Forte de São Tiago.

Lap up the waterfront views from Reid’s Palace during a leisurely morning. We then transfer to Funchal’s airport for our flight back to London. Enjoy some final in-flight pampering before we touch down at London Stansted Airport. Farewell your Tour Host Team and fellow travellers as our grand journey reaches its conclusion.
