In this new era of travel, there is no better way to explore our southern islands than by taking to the skies in a private plane, along with no more than 28 solo travellers. Savour a long weekend of gourmet produce, while leaving time to explore the rainforests, rivers and rich pastures of Flinders Island, western Tasmania and King Island.

Solo Travellers
Captain’s Choice presents one of its finest Australian journeys, exclusive to solo travellers. We meet and mix at a Welcome Dinner and the next day take to the skies on experiences never to be forgotten, with like-minded travellers who become firm friends.

Take Flight With Ease
Take advantage of routes not used by commercial airlines aboard our privately chartered Economy Class Saab 340B Turboprop. On a plane that normally seats 33, join a group of just 28 from Melbourne, flying to Australia’s southern islands, including north-west Tasmania.

Gourmet Wilderness Cruise
Explore the pristine beauty of the Gordon River aboard the whisper-quiet Spirit of the Wild. Enjoy delicious Tasmanian food and beverages in an exclusive viewing area while a knowledgeable guide shares local insights.

Rainforest Rail Journey
Roll through ancient rainforest, mountains and gorges of Tasmania’s rugged west coast. Climb using a rack and pinion system on one of Australia’s steepest tracks, and take a short rainforest walk at Dubbil Barril.

King Island's Finest
On King Island, we discover Australia’s tallest lighthouse, rising from rocky shores, and we sample King Island’s famed cheeses at the King Island Dairy.

Spoiled for choice
Read a review from journalist Penny Hunter that appeared in The Weekend Australian's Luxury & Travel.

We come together this afternoon at Hyatt Place Essendon Fields Hotel, were we meet newfound friends over a welcome drink and later enjoy a Welcome Dinner. We get excited about tomorrows adventure.
Melbourne, Flinders Island, Strahan
Our private plane is bound for the Furneaux archipelago off Tasmania’s north-east coast. Alighting on Flinders Island, the largest of the group, we visit the island’s noteworthy lookouts, including Trousers Point and Walkers Lookout. After a welcome lunch of fresh, local produce at Mountain Seas Lodge, we take to the skies again for the short hop to Burnie. From here, a scenic drive brings us to the west-coast town of Strahan. Our hilltop hotel overlooks its charming harbour surrounds. Pre-dinner drinks are served here, before we savour a sumptuous seafood buffet dinner at View 42°, also conveniently located within our accommodation.
Strahan
Aboard a heritage locomotive, we depart Queenstown for a journey through cool temperate rainforest. We ride through the spectacular King River Gorge, and climb steeply at Rinadeena Saddle using Australia’s only operating rack and pinion system. Back in Strahan, we take our seats in the Richard Davey Amphitheatre, where history is brought to life in the highly-acclaimed play The Ship That Never Was. Afterwards, dine at Risby Cove restaurant, a short walk from our hotel.
Strahan, Gordon River, King Island
Today we cruise an exquisite stretch of the Franklin-Gordon Rivers National Park aboard Spirit of the Wild. As we take in the splendour from the vessel’s Premier Upper Deck, our personal guide shares their knowledge and passion for the world-famous region while we enjoy a lunch of local delicacies, accompanied by Tasmanian wines and beers. Our plane then flies us from Burnie to King Island. Here we raise our glasses during a Farewell Dinner that heroes the produce of King Island, before retreating to our accommodation, Boomerang by the Sea.
King Island, Melbourne
After breakfast we tour Currie township, then make the gastronomic pilgrimage to the King Island Dairy for a cheese tasting at the altar of Australian cheese. Afterwards, we set off for Cape Wickham on the island’s craggy west coast to view Australia’s tallest lighthouse. Lunch is served at Cape Wickham before our early afternoon flight back to Melbourne.
