The Good Life on the Mediterranean 2019 map - Land only

Before we take to Croatia’s golden coastline, we head inland for Zagreb, the nation’s capital, where we discover a heady cultural blend, from hip to historic, within the compact city centre. At its heart, the Esplanade Zagreb hotel welcomes us to a haven of Art Deco refinement for the night.

Today, we unpack the cultural attractions of Zagreb during a guided walk, before we continue into Slovenia and onto Lake Bled, our home for two nights at the Grand Hotel Toplice. There will be time to boat across to Bled Island, with its fairytale church, while lunch on an outdoor terrace of Bled Castle serves up vistas of the Julian Alps and the Karavanke mountains.

Before crossing into Italy today, we lunch in the Vipava Valley at Zemono Castle’s Pri Lojzetu restaurant. This afternoon, a Venetian rite of passage awaits aboard a gondola ride tracing the city’s waterways. As the sun sets, a special Your World experience ferries us to a private island location of Venissa Winery for the Michelin-starred menu of Francesco Brutto, before retiring to the splendour of Hotel Danieli.

The time comes to meet our ship. Easing in to the relaxed rhythm of life aboard the EUROPA 2, we farewell Venice with the pop of French Champagne. Enjoy a wealth of onboard facilities including a fitness studio, golf simulator and six bars as you drift alongside the Dalmatian Coast. Dusk ushers us in with a welcome cocktail and dinner at one of seven gourmet restaurants

The Adriatic Sea nudges at Dubrovnik’s ancient walls as we are led through the city’s harbor. Choose a Your World experience to explore the waters of the 13 Elafiti Islands by private boat or to stroll through marbled alleyways with a local expert. Next in the Montenegrin city of Kotor, wander medieval streets with a local or enjoy lunch in the mountain village of Njeguši, with a visit to Cetinje’s Museum of King Nikola and a drive along the Budva Riviera.

At the heel of Italy’s boot, we dock at Monopoli in the southern region of Puglia. Our springboard to further Your World experiences. Explore Ostuni’s tangle of marbled streets before visiting a mill where virgin olive oil is made. For cheese lovers, see how burrata cheese is produced and wander past the UNESCO-listed trulli homes in Alberobello. Lunch takes place at A Mano winery as we contemplate the bliss of a day at sea.

Arriving in Sicily, we sail through Messina’s natural harbour where three Your World experiences await. Will you go above and beyond, as we explore Mt Etna by 4x4 and cable car? Keep your feet on the ground with a walk though Messina’s leafy boulevards or visit the historic highlights of Taormina including this hilltop town’s ancient Greek Theatre?

A day in captivating Capri calls for a coastal boat trip or lunch at Ristorante Mamma, managed by two Michelin-starred chef Gennaro Esposito, before Rome beguiles us with further discoveries. We may adjust our lens to focus on the exquisite craftsmanship found in the Tridente area; explore Rome’s contemporary side through art and design, or revel in the bucolic charm of Hadrian’s Villa and the Villa d’Este, in the nearby town of Tivoli.

Bonifacio commands our attention from soaring clifftops and our day evolves as we please on one of two Your World experiences. A half-day outing meanders through Bonifacio’s twisting lanes and past buildings where Napolean once marched, while a visit to the Lion de Roccapina rock formation and the village of Sartène culminates in a relaxed wine tasting.

In Portofino, mansions and villas spill down towards the sea in a burst of colour. Our chosen path today is either from Portofino to Santa Margherita Ligure, where tiny chapels flank our pathway along the ocean, or the spectacular Cinque Terre coastal trail, which links the villages of Vernazza, Manarola and Riomaggiore.

Reaching mainland France, the sleek port of Nice invites us to explore, or perhaps head for the heights of Eze, a medieval town overlooking the gleaming shoreline of the Cote d’Azur. When night settles, a visit to the legendary Monte Carlo Casino celebrates our last night before disembarking the EUROPA 2. After a free morning, we transfer to the airport in Nice.
