Upon arrival, we settle into our Harbour View King Rooms at the Park Hyatt Auckland and leisurely take in the vista out to Waitemata Harbour. A special night awaits with a Welcome Dinner at The Sugar Club, 53 floors above the city, at the top of Sky Tower. We enjoy a degustation menu with paired wines within the convivial atmosphere of our small group.

This morning, adventure beckons. We board our private superyacht and chart a course to nearby Waiheke Island for a gourmet food and wine experience. We lunch at Mudbrick Vineyard & Restaurant, overlooking the waters of the Hauraki Gulf, then take a carefully curated tour of the cellar doors of the island’s best boutique vineyards. A glass of New Zealand sparkling welcomes us back on board our privately chartered superyacht, as we cruise to Auckland via Motutapu and Rangitoto Island. Tonight, there is a choice of restaurants to savour in the bustling Wynyard Quarter, a short stroll from the Park Hyatt Auckland.

Today, we visit Glenbrook Vintage Railway, boarding our first-class parlour carriage for an exclusively chartered vintage steam train ride. Relish the pure joy of experiencing the golden age of travel, while gazing out to appreciate the awe-inspiring and ever-changing countryside. We then arrive at one of the world’s finest lodges, Huka Lodge, on the banks of the Waikato River. After settling into our Junior Suites, which blend seamlessly with the spectacular natural landscape, we savour a five-course dinner. Executive Chef Paul Froggatt’s cuisine has put Huka Lodge into the pages of France’s exclusive Les Grande Tables du Monde, the prestigious guide to the world’s best restaurants.

Awake to the sounds of birdsong and the burbling river before enjoying breakfast in one of Huka Lodge’s spectacular dining spots, either indoors or alfresco. Today we can choose from two Your World experiences, including traditional fly fishing for trout on the banks of the Waikato River with a picnic lunch, or a full-day chartered cruise on Lake Taupo with a gourmet lunch. The cruise takes in the scenic western bays of the lake, leading to the incredible Maori Rock Carvings at Mine Bay. Alternatively, opt for some time at leisure at our lodge. Tonight, we reconvene for dinner at Huka Lodge, savouring a menu of sustainably produced ingredients, with matching wines from the lodge’s impressive underground cellar.

Today, we take a journey on the Forgotten World rail carts, commencing at the aromatic Lauren’s Lavender Farm. We traverse 40 kilometres along the Forgotten World Railway, travelling through incredible hand-built brick tunnels. A vista of stunning hills and native bush peppered with country farms is revealed on the journey back. We then head into the heart of Tongariro National Park to our residence for the night, Chateau Tongariro. After settling in, we sit down to a Pacific Rim themed dinner in the stately Ruapehu Room.

We start the day by setting off on a specialist guided walk to explore Whakapapa Village, deep in the national park, along the stunning Taranaki Falls Loop Track. We then join the Northern Explorer train at Taumarunui Station for a scenic journey to Wellington. Over lunch on board, we enjoy the views of ever-changing scenery, including the mountains Tongariro, Ngauruhoe and Ruapehu. Ancient lava flows and dense beech forests reveal themselves at every turn. Our residence for the next two nights is the QT Wellington, where we stay in Executive Studio rooms. After settling in, take a seat for dinner at the hotel.

Choose from two Your World experiences in New Zealand’s capital city. The first is a half-day guided Wellington coach tour, taking in all the highlights of this cosmopolitan city, including Parliament House, Mt Victoria, a cable car ride and Te Papa Museum. Or choose to venture out on a full-day Martinborough winery experience with visits to several cellar doors, including a meet-the-winemaker, hands-on experience at Te Hera and a gourmet lunch. Tonight, choose to sample from some of Wellington’s best restaurants before resting at QT Wellington.

Today, we experience one of the world’s most beautiful ferry experiences, across the Cook Strait on the original Interislander Ferry to Picton. The incredible views continue as we step aboard the Coastal Pacific train for our journey to Christchurch. We enjoy lunch on board while peering out to Pacific Ocean vistas. Our train journey is perfectly scheduled to pass through the idyllic Canterbury Plains as the sun sets; we arrive in Christchurch just after it sinks beyond the horizon. We transfer to our residence for the next two nights, Hotel Montreal, a boutique hotel just steps from all the charms of Christchurch. We savour dinner at the hotel before taking rest in our Junior Suites.

This morning, we take a specialist guided tour of captivating Christchurch. We visit the Transitional Cardboard Cathedral; 185 Empty White Chairs, a memorial to the victims of the 2011 Christchurch earthquake; the ruins of the Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament; as well as some of the exciting developments taking place in the renewed inner city. We then take a gondola tour to see the city from another perspective. In the afternoon, we can choose from two Your World experiences, including a chartered Akaroa Wildlife Cruise to view Hector’s dolphins and little penguins. The tour also explores the site of a nineteenth-century French settlement. Alternatively, embark on a leisurely punt cruise along the river Avon. Tonight, we enjoy the experience of dining in an elegant vintage tram. Aboard the Tramway Restaurant, we marvel at the sights of Christchurch as they unfold beyond our window.  Afterwards, we return to our boutique hotel.

After breakfast, we board the TranzAlpine train for one of the world’s greatest coast-to-coast train journeys, travelling over the spectacular Southern Alps from Christchurch to Greymouth. We stop for lunch and a pint at Monteith’s Brewery before boarding a private coach for Hokitika, a coastal town known for its jade (pounamu). We meet a carver and learn about the greenstone’s cultural importance to Maori people. Pounamu can represent ancestors, connection with the natural world, or attributes such as strength, prosperity, love and harmony. We then arrive at Te Waonui Forest Retreat, our residence for the night in Franz Josef. This evening, we sit down for a degustation dinner at the retreat’s Canopy Restaurant, with a backdrop of pristine wilderness.

This morning, we take a private helicopter flight over Franz Josef and Fox Glaciers. The awe-inspiring views over these ever-evolving ice formations are complemented with a landing in the snow at the head of one of the glaciers. Our fleet of helicopters then take the scenic route back and touch down together in the township. We then travel to Queenstown via the picturesque ski town of Wanaka, where we stop for lunch, overlooking Lake Wanaka. Our residence for the next three nights is Hotel St Moritz, which affords stunning views across Lake Wakatipu to The Remarkables mountain range. We savour a leisurely dinner in the hotel before admiring the lake views from our Alpine Suites.

Today, you may find yourself enticed by one of the four Your World experiences. The first choice is a full-day Milford Sound scenic flight and sightseeing cruise, including a picnic lunch. There’s also the half-day Dart River Jet Boating Safari. Perhaps you’d prefer to sample the wines of Gibbston Valley while being chauffeured by a specialist wine guide. You’ll also enjoy lunch with paired wines in a beautiful mountain setting. Those wishing to take some time relaxing might like to choose the Onsen Hot Pools private soak option. Tonight, we have our choice of several renowned local restaurants in which to dine.

Our morning begins with a choice of Your World experiences. Choose the full experience of taking a lake steamer cruise on the TSS Earnslaw, followed by a waterfront lunch at Pier, and a chartered steam train ride on the restored Kingston Flyer. Or opt to do just one, leaving time to visit the boutiques of Queenstown, or simply relax at our hotel. Tonight, we reconvene for a Farewell Dinner at Botswana Butchery, nestled inside the historic Archer’s Cottage, before a final night enjoying the views across the lake from Hotel St Moritz.

After breakfast, we bid farewell to new-found friends, our ultimate journey through New Zealand at an end.
