A Journey Fit For Royalty

We fly according to our own schedule on a jet once belonging to the Dutch Royal Family. In absolute business-class comfort, just 22 guests will enjoy the convenience of this aircraft, possessing a style all its own.

Board our Royal Jet in Sydney, enjoying morning tea on board as we fly to Ayers Rock Airport. Arriving in the Red Centre, we make our way to our luxury lodge, Longitude 131°. Our hosts arrange a leisurely gourmet lunch, then, after making ourselves comfortable at our spectacular residence, we take in the unique perspectives of an Uluru sunset. We are then spellbound by the Field of Light installation. With darkness descending over the vast landscape, thousands of tiny individual light sources gradually illuminate the surrounding area in a kaleidoscope of colour. Our first evening concludes as we gather under the stars and dine amid the dunes at Table 131°, weather permitting.

Following breakfast in the Dune House, we head out to contemplate the sheer rock walls of Walpa Gorge. A viewing platform then allows us to take in remarkable Kata Tjuta; its red rock domes populating the desert landscape. Afterwards, a visit to the Cultural Centre offers insight into Indigenous traditions. Back at Longitude 131°, we refuel for this afternoon’s activities. At the base of Uluru, our guide begins to share the story of the Mala people; more is revealed as we continue on to Kantju Gorge. Here, we enjoy drinks and canapes before a setting sun. This evening, we savour contemporary Australian dishes in the comfortable surrounds of the Dune House.

Begin today with breakfast in the cool retreat of the Dune House. We then venture along a pathway through the lush, tree-lined Mutitjulu. Aspects of the Anangu beliefs system are revealed to us, before morning tea is served in the shade by Mutitjulu Waterhole. After transferring to Ayers Rock Airport, we reconnect with our Royal Jet. Heading due north, we set our sights on Darwin, enjoying a gourmet lunch en route. Arriving in Darwin, we transfer to a light aircraft for the short flight to Bamurru Plains. Following a short orientation at our secluded lodge, we have time to freshen up in our individual Safari Bungalows. The experiences available to us here include gliding over the floodplains aboard an airboat, while keeping a look out for saltwater crocodiles. Alternatively, cruise along the Sampan River on a canopy-covered boat. You may prefer to simply relax with a refreshing dip in our lodge’s outdoor pool. The chance to spot diverse wildlife, including brumbies, buffaloes, dingoes and wallabies during a game drive or guided walk is also on offer. This evening, a nourishing three-course dinner is served in the main lodge.

After having breakfast in the main lodge, head out to enjoy the natural wonders of this unique part of the world. Witness flocks of magpie geese, plumed whistling-ducks, egrets, and ibis taking flight overhead as you skim across the waters of the Mary River Floodplains aboard an airboat. Come to rest amid a swampy forest of melaleuca trees, as your guide demonstrates several uses of the flora in these wetlands. Return to the lodge for lunch before taking the afternoon at leisure. Swim in the lodge’s pool, rest in your Safari Bungalow or wander the grounds of this vast property. Late in the afternoon, you may wish to join a 4WD safari fishing adventure at Fisher Billabong. Afterwards, toast the sunset in this spectacular setting with drinks and canapes. Enjoy a meal of fresh locally sourced produce this evening, then perhaps adjourn to the deck for some star gazing, making the most of clear outback skies. You may prefer to head out for an evening drive for a different perspective of these seemingly boundless plains.

Wake to the sounds of the bush this morning ahead of another exciting day of memorable experiences. Today, a light aircraft brings us to timeless Kakadu National Park. Several significant events are portrayed through the world’s greatest concentrations of rock art sites. At Ubirr Rock, we see examples of first-contact art, depictions of flora and fauna, and paintings honouring Indigenous Creation Stories. After absorbing these works, we climb aboard a custom-built vehicle, joining a field guide for an immersion deeper into the wilderness. The afternoon sees us taking a scenic flight over Kakadu and we meet with an Indigenous guide who leads us to important sites along the East Alligator River. Our arrival back at Bamurru Plains is made just in time to witness the sun making its dramatic descent beyond the horizon. After taking time to admire the stunning twilight hues from our position on the deck, we retreat to the comfort of our Safari Bungalows.

Following breakfast, we board a light aircraft for the short flight back to Darwin, where we rejoin our Royal Jet for the journey to Cairns. From here, another short flight by light aircraft delivers us to remote Lizard Island. Here, we check into the Great Barrier Reef’s northernmost resort, Lizard Island Resort. Take the afternoon to stroll the island’s beaches at your own pace, admiring the pristine turquoise waters of this secluded paradise. Tonight, we dine on the freshest local produce at our resort’s Salt Water Restaurant.

With options galore today, set out on a Your World experience, taking advantage of Lizard Island’s many appealing aspects:

— Set out on a self-drive boating adventure, sailing to your own private beach. Spend a full day snorkelling and sailing, and enjoy a picnic lunch in an undisturbed location.

— Spend the morning on a guided nature walk to Cook’s Look. Reach the island’s highest vantage point, with incomparable views of the reefs and surrounding islands.

— Stay at our resort and join a relaxing yoga session with our in-house instructor.

After lunch at our resort, choose another Your World experience:

— Indulge in a relaxing full-body massage at our resort’s Essentia Day Spa.

— Immerse yourself in the crystal-clear waters of Lizard Island with your choice of snorkelling, paddle boarding or kayaking adventures. You may also like to head out on another nature walk.

This evening, dine on the balcony at Salt Water Restaurant, overlooking the calm waters of Anchor Bay.

Yesterday’s Your World experiences are on offer again today, so feel free to choose one or two you may have missed. The morning Cook’s Look option is substituted today with a visit to the Australian Museum Lizard Island Research Station. Learn about the projects undertaken here, which work toward an understanding of the local ecosystem, as well as the efforts made to preserve the reef and its inhabitants. Following your choice of afternoon Your World experiences, dine this evening at our resort.

Enjoy your final breakfast on Lizard Island, before boarding a light aircraft for our return to Cairns. We then travel the short distance to Palm Cove, enjoying lunch at one of its many fine restaurants. Lap up views of the Coral Sea from the esplanade before we return to Cairns. Here, we board our Royal Jet for the final time. Our captain charts a course for Sydney as we enjoy afternoon tea on board. We arrive back in Sydney in the early evening and farewell our captain, crew and fellow travellers.
