Begin your gradual return to the world of travel with a captivating long weekend in South Australia’s remote reaches. On our private aircraft, we fly direct between Melbourne and Port Augusta. Enjoy a private trip along the Pichi Richi Railway and spend two nights wrapped in the rugged landscapes of the Flinders Ranges.
An Effortless Journey by Private Plane
Fly direct from Melbourne to Port Augusta on our privately chartered Economy Class Saab 340B Turboprop. On a plane that normally seats 35, join a group of 28, taking advantage of expedited airport arrangements and routes not travelled by others.
Private Journey aboard the Pichi Richi Railway
A privately chartered railcar carries us along the historic Pichi Richi Railway, through the scenery of the Flinders Ranges, to Quorn. The journey includes a section of the original Ghan route.
Explore The Ranges by 4WD
Enjoy the off-road thrills of a 4WD journey through Ikara-Flinders Ranges National Park. Drive to Brachina Gorge, look for yellow-footed rock wallabies, enjoy sweeping views of Bunyeroo Valley and see the eastern wall of Wilpena Pound.
Wilpena Pound from Above or Below
Explore Wilpena Pound along its dusty tracks, or above them. Pull on your walking boots and hit the trails between sheer rock walls and rocky outcrops. Alternatively, a scenic flight provides staggering views of Wilpena Pound and the surrounding mountains.
Wilpena Pound Resort
Wilpena Pound Resort’s Ikara Safari Camp is surrounded by the spectacularly remote bushland of Ikara-Flinders Ranges National Park. Enjoy a ‘glamping’ experience in a two-person tent, with a private ensuite, a king bed, a deck and a fire pit.
Melbourne, Port Augusta, Wilpena Pound
Sink into your seat as our privately chartered aircraft whisks us from Melbourne to Port Augusta. On arrival, we tour the Wadlata Outback Centre, then board our private carriage for a journey along the historic Pichi Richi Railway. Our train continues its gentle chug along a section of the original Ghan route before we pause at Woolshed Flat for a Devonshire tea. Disembark at Quorn and travel by road to Wilpena Pound Resort in Ikara-Flinders Ranges National Park. Here, the cracked and crimson-coloured earth, offset by the blue sky, speaks of the South Australian outback. We enjoy canapes and bubbles while watching the last rays of the setting sun descend over the walls of Wilpena Pound.
Awake to the sounds of the bush and the remarkable scenery of Wilpena Pound. Today is spent amid the rocky peaks, red gorges and parched river beds that make up the 800-million-year-old landscape. A convoy of 4WDs takes us on a discovery through the region’s highlights. Peer into Brachina Gorge, survey the rugged walls of Bunyeroo Valley and keep an eye out for kangaroos, emus and the rare yellow-footed rock-wallaby. In the afternoon, follow one of the walking tracks or take a flight to experience the full 83 square kilometres of Wilpena Pound from the air. This evening we’re treated to a private dinner beneath a blanket of stars.
Wilpena Pound, Melbourne
Farewell Ikara-Flinders Ranges National Park after a final breakfast at the resort. We then travel by road to Port Augusta, where we meet our private aircraft for the return flight to Melbourne.
