It's very hard to select just a few highlights of this journey, but having exclusive access to the Egyptian Museum is high on the list. It was very special to have the entire place to ourselves. The temples of Abydos, Luxor and Ramses II in Abu Simbel were my favourite locations. In Captain’s Choice style we boarded a private plane to drop into the Temple of Ramses II for the day.
And, of course, visiting the Pyramids of Giza and the Sphinx! We had Egyptologists accompanying us the entire journey – they were full of knowledge and ready to impart their historical and local wisdom. They dissected the ancient history and explained it so effortlessly, bringing to life ancient Egypt's Pharaohs and Gods. It wouldn’t have been the same without them explaining what we were seeing.
While viewing vast tombs, temples and statues, it was astounding to learn how this ancient civilisation had developed such sophisticated construction techniques. We also saw how their stories had been communicated through the use of hieroglyphics, which still remain today.
Our guests, and myself, felt safe for the duration of our journey throughout Egypt. Having local guides and security officers accompany us was a comfort that we quickly became accustomed to.
The voyage aboard Sanctuary Nile Adventurer was exceptional. Its comfortable cabins include large windows, through which you are able to view the Nile in privacy if you wish. There are also several semi-shaded decks, one of which features a perfectly positioned pool. There are many opportunities to enjoy local cuisine, or if you prefer something more familiar, you have that choice also. The lounge is the hub of the ship, where the majority of guests become well-acquainted with the excellent hospitality on board.
We were on the cruise for 11 nights, which allowed us to explore the Nile in-depth while really making ourselves at home aboard the ship.
