Overview
Traverse Africa from west to east aboard the privately chartered Rovos Rail. Following a custom-designed route, exclusive to Captain’s Choice, we absorb the history and culture of countries rarely visited by other travellers. Of course, no trip to Africa can be considered complete without a safari, so we also enjoy stays in South Luangwa National Park and Kapama Private Game Reserve. GAME DRIVES IN CELEBRATED NATIONAL PARKS
Our journey is perfectly timed for East Africa’s dry season, which may see wildlife congregating around waterholes across South Luangwa National Park and Kapama Private Game Reserve. Head out for game drives, keeping watch for lions, leopards, rhino, buffalo, and elephants.
BEHOLD VICTORIA FALLS – ON LAND OR FROM THE AIR
Set out on a walk through breathtaking rainforest, arriving at the base of Victoria Falls. Witness torrents of water gushing over the precipice, as an ethereal mist ascends. For an even greater and more thrilling overview, climb aboard a helicopter.
IMMERSIVE ENCOUNTERS FROM WEST TO EAST
Enjoy an intimate look at towns and cities rarely visited by others. Arriving by train, we join local guides for inside perspectives, from Angola to Mozambique. In Zambia, we visit the Lusaka Elephant Sanctuary, whose rescue efforts have seen many of these majestic creatures returned to the wild.

Aboard Rovos Rail, we are granted the rare opportunity of traversing the vast landscapes between Angola and Mozambique. Open the windows of the lounge car and peer outside at the unfolding and wondrous scenes of Africa.

We begin our adventure with a stay at the InterContinental Luanda Miramar. Our Classic Rooms enjoy views across Luanda Bay. Adjourn to the terrace, where the large outdoor pool provides further perspectives, and enjoy a drink at the Peri Peri Grill & Bar.
HOTEL TERMINUS, LOBITO
In Lobito, we stay upon the sands of Myrtle Beach at the Hotel Terminus. Its position along a narrow point allows for panoramic sea views, with Lobito Bay and the South Atlantic on either side.
The Victoria Falls Hotel
Our elegant hotel is just a stroll from the falls. Built in 1904, the Edwardian-style property features rooms that blend modernity and style. Verdant grounds lead us to an unobscured vantage point of the Victoria Falls Bridge and the unmistakable spray emanating from the falls.
Kapama River Lodge, Hoedspruit
Awake to views of Kapama Private Game Reserve from your Deluxe Suite. A private patio places you even nearer the African wilderness. Take a dip in the outdoor pool, surrounded by a forest of russet bushwillow trees. And dine by a roaring fire while gazing at the stars.
Polana Serena Hotel, Maputo
Our final night is spent at Maputo’s finest residence, Polana Serena Hotel. Its palatial building flanks an elegant outdoor swimming pool, while most rooms enjoy views of Maputo Bay. The well-known landmark encompasses an ideal blend of luxury and hospitality.
