Itinerary

Cairo is a curated collection of Egypt’s most fascinating treasures. We discover a plethora of sights, highlights of which are the Great Pyramids of Giza and the Sphinx, as well as the Egyptian Museum and the Cairo Citadel. Your World experiences offer the chance to visit the Chephren Pyramid, explore the Solar Boat Museum or ride around the pyramids aboard a camel. Our welcome dinner is enjoyed on board wooden feluccas.

Step aboard the Sanctuary Sun Boat III, where we stay for 11 nights. During a cocktail reception, we sample regional wine and beer alongside a lavish dinner, then enjoy a day on board as we head in a southerly direction. Amarna lies on a mostly uninhabited stretch of the Nile’s eastern bank. Eerie to approach, we idle towards the docks and alight for a discovery of desert graves and tombs.

The eastern bank of the Nile calls. We rise in tandem with the sun to visit the rock-tombs of Beni Hasan. Of the 39 in this ancient cemetery site, only four are open for viewing. On our way to Sohag, we glide past lush pastures peppered across the banks. On arrival, pay visits to the Red and White monasteries. Then, with a whisk and a chop, the many spices and flavours of Egypt are revealed during a cooking demonstration on our ship.

We cross the Sohag Bridge, which divides the city into east and west districts. The remainder of the day is spent on board as we cruise to Nagaa Hammadi and onwards to the holy city of Abydos. While here, we learn that many pre-dynastic kings and pharaohs from as far back as 4,000 BC have been buried in this city. Continue to Qena later this afternoon where we dock for the evening.

After a visit to the temple dedicated to the Egyptian goddess of beauty and love in Dandarah, we cruise to Luxor where our Egyptologist chaperons us along the east bank. Marvel at Luxor Temple, the Valley of the Kings and more before sailing further downstream to Kom Ombo. Here, see the Temple of Kom Ombo and take a private motorboat to the island of Agilika. A gala dinner is served on board by white-gloved waiters.

In Abu Simbel we enter the Temple of Rames II and spend the evening at the Sound and Light show before retiring to Seti Abu Simbel Lake Resort. After a charter flight to Cairo, we discover the Old Town’s synagogue and churches, then get together for a Farewell Dinner set to the tune of a harpist.
