Bastille Day

Bastille Day Festivities

Timing is everything, and our journey sees us arrive in Nouméa for Bastille Day celebrations, including the vibrant street parade and evening Lantern Festival. Our immersion in French culture makes it feel as if we are in continental France, yet we are so close to home.

Island of Niue
Island of Niue

Far-off Flora & Fauna

The tiny Pacific island of Niue invites us to try its array of fresh and flavourful fruits, with pawpaw, mango and coconut being in abundance. We are also here during the whale migration season; keep watch for Oceania humpback whales.

Where Stone Ancestors Stand Watch

The most remote of all our destinations, Easter Island is called Rapa Nui by its Polynesian inhabitants. Here, 600 mysterious moai occupy various corners of the island. Frozen in time, these giant statues lend Rapa Nui an air of mystique – particularly at sunrise.

Bora Bora

Utopia on Bora Bora

Our journey concludes with three nights on the island of Bora Bora; our home, the luxurious Four Seasons Bora Bora Resort. Stay in an Overwater Bungalow and do as much or as little as you please. Snorkel with marine life, join a cultural safari, or simply relax at our resort.

Having met at our private VIP terminal, we board our jet for the flight to New Caledonia. Our French-inspired menu is complemented by fine wines, which we enjoy while crossing the South Pacific en route to Nouméa. Our suites at Le Méridien Noumea Resort & Spa offer us a glimpse of the paradise available across the island. This evening, we celebrate our arrival by participating in the lantern march from Port Moselle to Place des Cocotiers. Afterwards, keep watch for dolphins during our Welcome Dinner, as we dine directly over the water at Le Roof Restaurant.

We begin our day attending the traditional Bastille Day parade. Lanterns adorned with the French tricolour overwhelm the streets, their owners’ fervent and festive.

After lunch back at our luxurious hotel, enjoy a Your World experience:

— Set yourself up for the rest of the day, enjoying a massage at our resort’s Deep Nature Spa.
— Alternatively, head out to see some of Nouméa’s most striking scenery. Enjoy the area’s breathtaking bays and beaches at close range and from several scenic lookouts.

Select from some of Nouméa’s best restaurants this evening.

Stepping aboard our private jet again, we continue our journey east to the island of Niue, and its capital Alofi. We enjoy a gourmet lunch aboard our jet, before landing mid-afternoon. See some of Alofi’s sights, then head to the Scenic Matavai Resort Niue, where we spend the next two nights. Our resort’s expansive decks offer spectacular views across the Pacific. Relax and watch for spinner dolphins and Oceania humpback whales. Admire further views from your Clifftop Room before joining your fellow travellers for sunset drinks. Afterwards, a traditional Umu dinner is accompanied by a cultural show.

Your World experiences are the order of the day:

— Absorb the local flavours during visits to a vanilla plantation and a hydroponic farm. At another plantation, try some coconut, pawpaw, and perhaps a couple of other seasonal surprises.
— Make your way to some of the island’s rugged shorelines to admire their remarkable geology and crystal-clear waters. Led by a local guide, get to know the region’s flora and fauna, language and history.

After lunch back at our resort, a further choice of Your World experiences fills our afternoon:

— Meet Mark Cross at his studio in Liku Village. Hear how he created the Hikulagi Sculpture Park, visit the museum and art gallery, and join a printing workshop. Learn the skills used in block printing and create your own piece of art to take home.
— Get to know the local way of life during visits to several villages. In Lakepa, hear from our host about the area’s history and culture, and try some freshly harvested coconut, pawpaw, and other seasonal treats.

Dine on the deck at our resort this evening, enjoying spectacular ocean views.

After breakfast, our private jet continues across the South Pacific Ocean, following a course set for Easter Island. The time difference between Niue and Easter Island, as well as a requisite fuel stop in Papeete, means our day is spent largely in the air. As such, we enjoy a gourmet lunch, as well as dinner, aboard our aircraft. On arrival, we check into Explora Rapa Nui, where we stay in Varúa rooms.

Rise early today for one of the world’s most remarkable sunrises. Stand before the 15 Moai statues at Ahu Tongariki as the sun’s first rays appear. Light streams between each figure, while long shadows are cast behind them. This tiny island is unlike any place on Earth. The landscape is dotted with various volcanoes and lakes. The main draw, however, is the hundreds of giant Moai, whose undeniable presence lends the island a sense of the supernatural. At Rano Raraku, we discover the volcanic crater once utilised as a quarry in the construction of the imposing figures. On Anakena’s beach, we see the stretch of land where Polynesian settlers first arrived, having travelled across the sea in their dugout canoes.

A break for lunch gives us the opportunity to take in all that we have seen already today.
Your World experiences grant us further perspectives this afternoon:

— Take in yet more Moai sightings while paying a visit to Ahu Akivi. Here, seven of the giant statues stand in formation, facing the sunset.
— Return to our lodge and enjoy a relaxing massage.
— Depart on a bicycle and explore this rugged and magical island on your own schedule.

Tonight, enjoy local cuisine complemented with your choice of premium wine. Perhaps try the local Chilean variety.

This morning, visit the abandoned village of Orongo, a collection of stone houses perched on the lip of the volcanic caldera known as Rano Kau. On one side, the 300-metre cliff affords dizzying views of the ocean. On the other, a gentle, grassy slope leads to a freshwater crater lake.

Having more than satisfied our curiosity regarding this fascinating island, we return to the nearby airport to meet once more with our private jet. Our gradual journey westward begins from here, though we still have much to discover over the next few days.

We enjoy a gourmet lunch aboard our jet before landing on the island of Tahiti. A scheduled flight with Air Tahiti then takes us the rest of the way to Bora Bora. On landing, we transfer to a speedboat and cruise to the sublime Four Seasons Resort Bora Bora. This evening, enjoy a choice of dining from our resort’s array of spectacular settings and cuisines. For the next three nights, we stay in Mountain View Overwater Bungalows, with uninterrupted views of pristine turquoise waters.

With awe-inspiring backdrops our constant companions, select a morning Your World experience:

— Head out on a 4WD cultural safari, during which you will discover some of the little-known archaeological and historical treasures dotted across the island. Then pay a visit to Mama Ruta’s to witness a traditional pareo-dyeing demonstration, then sample some local fresh fruit.
— Select from the extensive massage menu available within our resort’s spa.

Enjoy lunch at our resort, then take the afternoon at leisure. Choose where you would like to dine again this evening: in the open air; over the water; or perhaps, conveniently, on the private deck of your bungalow.

This morning’s Your World experiences invigorate and inspire:

— Immerse yourself in the underwater world during a snorkelling safari and meet the resident sea life, including some of the hundreds of different fish species that inhabit the waters around the island.
— Perhaps take the opportunity for a relaxing massage at our resort.

Our resort’s multiple dining options are again available during lunch today.

Lap up the unmatched views from your Overwater Bungalow this afternoon before we gather together for one last dining experience in this stunning setting.

After a bountiful breakfast, glide across the water aboard a speedboat, as we transfer to the nearby airport. A scheduled Air Tahiti flight swiftly returns us to Papeete. Here, we rejoin our private jet for our final flight back to Melbourne, stopping briefly in Auckland to refuel. Reflect upon the remarkable time we have shared during our island journey as we disembark and say farewell.
