The world’s only luxury icebreaker, Ponant’s Le Commandant Charcot is capable of cutting through thick ice floes and thus the first of its kind to carry passengers to the Geographic North Pole (at 90 degrees north latitude). Le Commandant Charcot is also the world’s first Hybrid-Electric LNG-powered expedition vessel. With maximum guest numbers of 245, this small ship can access even the most remote areas with ease.

On board are up to 23 expedition experts to share their passion for the North Pole. They will be on hand to give lectures about our destinations, lead expeditions and conduct research in the hitherto inaccessible remote locations Le Commandant Charcot can visit.

With menus curated by celebrated French chef Alain Ducasse, Le Commandant Charcot’s food and wine selection is world class. The three restaurant choices on board all share the same dedication to French hospitality. The buffet restaurant, Sila has two intimate dining rooms, Inneq bar offers casual dining on the terrace whilst the jewel in the crown is Nuna offering fine French Cuisine and an exemplary wine list.
SUSTAINABLE SAILING
Le Commandant Charcot, the world’s first Hybrid-Electric LNG-powered expedition vessel, is the epitome of a more responsible and sustainable sailing. The vessel also has hi-tech stabilisers eschewing the need for heavy anchors that damage the seafloor and also feature new hulls designed to glide through water with less drag, improving fuel economy.
