Land only map A Journey of the Gods 2021

Cairo is a curated collection of Egypt’s most fascinating treasures. We discover a plethora of sights, highlights of which are the Great Pyramids of Giza and the Sphinx, as well as the Egyptian Museum and the Cairo Citadel. Your World experiences offer the chance to visit the Chephren Pyramid, explore the Solar Boat Museum or ride around the pyramids aboard a camel.

Our chartered flight delivers us to Abu Simbel. We enter the Temple of Ramses II and Nefertari Temple, before continuing onwards to Aswan aboard our chartered flight. Here, we find ourselves at the shores of the Nile, where the SS Misr awaits. As we voyage north along the Nile, the Aswan High Dam and Philae Temple beckon us away from our vessel to explore. Once ashore, it’s time to uncover thousands of Egyptian antiquities at the Nubian Museum.

We sail onwards to Kom Ombo, coined during the Pharaonic period as Nubt, the ‘City of Gold’. Here, we encounter the Temple of Kom Ombo, dedicated to two gods, Sobek and Horus. Our vessel continues its meander up the Nile to Edfu, home to the Edfu Temple. The ancient treasures of Luxor are in our sights.

Our Egyptologist chaperones us along the east bank of the Nile into Luxor. Here, we encounter Luxor Temple, the Valley of the Kings, Hatshepsut Temple and the Colossi of Memnon. We journey to Karnak Temple, the world’s largest religious building. Our vessel follows the curves of the Nile to Qena. Going ashore, we visit The Dendera Temple Complex to see Hathor Temple, dedicated to the Egyptian goddess of beauty and love.

We enter Nagaa Hammadi and the holy city of Abydos. While here, we learn that many pre-dynastic kings and pharaohs from as far back as 4000 BC have been buried in this city. It’s onwards to Sohag, crossing the Sohag Bridge which divides the city into east and west districts. Our journey continues towards the lost city of Amarna, the tombs and catacombs of Tune El Gebel, necropolis of Khnum in Al Minya, and the Ashmunein open-air museum.

The eastern bank of the Nile calls. We rise in tandem with the sun to visit the rock-tombs of Beni Hasan. Of the 39 in this ancient cemetery site, only four are open for viewing.

We glide into Cairo, the city of pyramids. We head inland to the brand-new Grand Museum, where ancient wonders steal our attention. The time comes to bid farewell to our noble vessel with a Farewell Dinner on board the SS Misr. Enlightened by a deep understanding of Egypt’s history, culture and gods, we head home.
