Itinerary

Eager to explore the Land of the Rising Sun, check in to the Palace Hotel, Tokyo for three nights. Our discovery gets under way the next morning with a guided walk around the East Gardens of the Imperial Palace followed by a degustation of Japanese delicacies with a French twist at La Rochelle. Early the next day, we drive to Hakone National Park for a cruise on Lake Ashi. If it’s clear we’ll enjoy views of Mt Fuji from aboard the Hakone Ropeway.

Appreciate the serenity of the Hamarikyu Gardens and spend time in the city’s oldest neighbourhood, Asakusa. Here, see Senso-ji Temple and browse the Nakamise Dori shopping strip. Take a look back at Tokyo’s history at the Edo-Tokyo Museum and explore the upmarket Ginza district. At Tokyo Tower, panoramas of the city and surrounds are ours to enjoy. We depart Tokyo on board Silver Muse and cruise to the southern tip of Kyushu.

At Kagoshima, explore the castle town of Chiran, appreciate the well-preserved residences and gardens of the Samurai quarter, then lose yourselves amidst the manicured Japanese gardens of Iso-Teien. Heading north, we arrive in Nagasaki prefecture where Your World experiences take us to man-made Dejima Island or to the Kujuku-Shima Islands.

Leave Japan’s southern coast for South Korea, dropping anchor in the port city of Busan. Here, Your World experiences on offer include a full day tour through Busan or an excursion to the city of Gyeongju. We spend a day relaxing aboard our ship as we make our way from South Korea back to Japan.

Pause in Maizuru en route to Kyoto where we visit Kinkaku-ji Temple or the Golden Pavilion. On a Your World experience, ride a rickshaw through the bamboo groves of Arashiyama or learn about the Japanese tea ceremony with a Geisha. We then head back to Maizuru where we observe sake making or journey to the top of Goro Sky Tower and explore the Navy Memorial Museum on Your World experiences. A day at sea follows.

In Aomori, Your World experiences include a drive to Hirosaki Park to see Hirosaki Castle, or a visit to Seiryu-ji temple. Then, explore the fascinating archaeological site of Sannai-Maruyama before our ship arrives at Hakodate. Here, Your World experiences will lead us to the Hakodate Morning Market or to Mt Hakodate. Once again, we cherish a relaxing day on board as we make our way to our final port of call.

We disembark Silver Muse today, having circumnavigated Japan. Capture the sights of Tokyo one final time, cherishing the memories we have created of our Japanese adventure.
